Mammary Mud™ Discussion:

This mud mask will saturate the skin of the breasts with herbs that are infused with essential oils. The fine, silky powder particles pass on the essential oil molecules, along with a carrier, maximizing absorption. It is believed that the topical use of herbs and essential oils may deliver the molecules much more effectively than trying to reach the same areas by digestion. Poultices have been used on the abdomen for centuries, with great results, hence why they are still used today. Although, most have never heard of using herbal mud on the skin. It can also be used anywhere but these particular herbs are breast specific.

There are ways that you can enhance the effects. You can place a warmed or chilled cloth over the mud application. Indirect heat may help to open the pores, encourage milk output and let-downs, relieve mastitis, and assist with plugged ducts. Heating pads may also be very helpful. Coldness will cause pores to tightly close, helping to relieve pain and swelling, engorgement, mastitis, and if applied after cleaning the breasts off, it may lock the healing power in!

Nipples may act as doorways, leading deeper into the breast tissue and ducts. This is a tool that we should utilize. Using herbs may help to tighten, tone, increase breast volume and elasticity, moisturize, firm wrinkles, brighten, and repair. They may also promote circulation, making it a great tool for breast maintenance and beauty. Blemishes of the breasts and chest can also be treated with this mud.

Pacific yew is said to be a breast-specific herb that is used in many high-end cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. It is said to decrease cell replication. As it absorbs into the skin, its main medicinal constituent, Taxol, is released. The yew was studied as a possible treatment for chronic breast disease in the 1960’s when there was a search for “possible cancer cures from natural plant and animal products”. Another study which discusses echinacea and camellia as being stimulants for the immune system, as well as initiate anti-tumor properties. (2) Camellia is also known as green tea and it is packed in EGCG, antioxidants, and polyphenols, which the study claims that they exhibit antitumor and anti-mutagenic activity, protect cells from DNA damage attributed to free radicals, restrict cancer cell division, stimulate necrosis and apoptosis of tumor cells, and inhibit the metastases and angiogenesis in tumor cells. Fritillary bulb has been used in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), for its bitter and cold properties. It is said to enter the lung and heart channels, helping to open those microcirculatory areas we discussed here. There they also use it as a lymphatic decongestant, to reduce swellings, nodules, fibrocystic breasts, goiter, and swollen lymph glands. The Sacred Lotus seed is used in Ayurvedic medicine because it may offer unique support for the breasts. It is used as a natural breast enhancer, showing its direct results on the breasts specifically. We have had much success with using ashwagandha for breast support. Japanese knotweed and black pepper are potent adaptogens that may be capable of pulling the compounds of all the herbs within, to deeper areas that they may not be capable of reaching themselves. The breasts have many micro vessels, which is what knotweed specializes in. Black pepper is also a potentiating herb! This means that it may enhance the activity and absorption capabilities of other herbs! Just like the processes we mentioned that the leaf and flower of green tea are involved in. We are also told by Dr. Stephen Buhner that the herbs wild violet and porcelain berry may be ideal “go-to” herbs when breast support is needed, especially within the mammary glands.

Simply add 1 Tbsp. of water to every 1 & 1/2 tsp. of powdered mask, blend into a paste, apply to the breasts and chest area, allow it to sit for 20 minutes, and remove with a shower or damp cloth. It is not advised to use soap to wash it off until a couple hours have passed. As much as you may want to remove the paste, it may be best to allow the absorbed compounds to remain for as long as they can. It is advised to consider using daily applications for two weeks. You can use any sterile water, but the mask may be enhanced by using a hydrosol instead.
