Indian “Ocotopus” Heliotrope Discussion:

I was introduced to Indian/Octopus Heliotrope years ago, which pertained to its ancient uses in the sterilization of drinking water. I began to grow it, as there were no herbal sources available and it could only be obtained by doing so yourself. Therefore, today, I may be the only one to offer it!

It is to be taken in small, homeopathic doses. It is a plant to be strictly respected, as in high doses it can be toxic. In smaller doses, it can be highly supportive of many modern issues, including and especially fungus. It is a plant that Indigenous people place in their drinking water reservoirs, in attempts to kill any harmful bacteria and fungus. This speaks volumes!

This journal mentions that it ” The aqueous extract of leaves was proved to be active against Schwart’s leukaemia”. Ironically, being as one of its nicknames is the “Scorpion Plant”, it was used long ago to treat scorpion stings with intentions to neutralize the venom.

This Same Study says that it was shown to be active “against all the test organisms. The test organisms Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus pumilus, Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus glutamicus, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Proteus vulgaris, Serratia marcescens and Escherichia coli were used among the Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. The fungi used were Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus wentii and Rhizopus oryzae while Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Candida albicans were among the yeast selected for testing the antimicrobial activity”. As it turns out, many of these pathogens appeared in the Rope Worm genome! For this reason, it is now a part of our Rope Solutions blend. It is also called “Octopus” Heliotrope, due to arrangement of flowers looking like the arm of an octopus. It has some pretty impressive benefits. It is said that when studied it may have helped to lower compounds associated with liver disease, such as bilirubin. It also may have had a significant effect on helping to reduce cytokine activity. It contains an alkaloid, indicine, which has shown very promising tumor activity! More studies need to be done on topics such as these. 

It is said to be a purgative for the reproductive system, acting as a “cleaning agent’ for this area, for men and for women! Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should not use it, as this same action may have negative effects, especially the flowers.

This plant is only available in liquid form.

Product Variations:

We highly recommend getting 2 different variations of the following to know exactly what a specific herb will, or will not do for you, as well as to achieve saturation.

Standard Tincture – Herbal compounds extracted in an alcohol base. Alcohol offers a superior absorption rate. The lipospheres’ may have the capability to surpass the bioavailability of a standard tincture, although it exhibits all of the same benefits.

Glycerite – Herbal compounds extracted in vegetable glycerin. This contains NO alcohol and NO sugar. The taste of glycerin resembles syrup, which makes it ideal for children. This version may be best for those highly sensitive or are seeking a nonalcoholic extraction. Doses may need to be up to three times higher than a tincture to receive similar benefits. They can be taken in the same way as tinctures, which is in 4 oz. of water, juice, or a smoothie.
